CHARLOTTA ÖSTLUND

The Frail Stem Of Hope

In my works I use things that I find around me, this time a collection of plant parts. I use elements from our immediate environment in an attempt to deal with issues related to one's existence. The works in the exhibition have been developed through my interest in the relationship between genuine and imitative materials. While putting this exhibition together, I also noticed that I was following the long tradition of using floral motifs for telling stories beyond the botanical aspects.

The collected plant parts have been combined with items that I have made as well as with artificial ones. The exhibition provides the audience with a chance to see how nature represents people’s primal preconditions, whereas the artificial items tell something about one's needs and longing. I wanted to create a wordless story about the frail connection between human conditions and hopes.
